Grkovsko Lake (also known as Lake Grkovo) on Mount Sinjajevina in Montenegro is a unique artificial reservoir situated amidst pristine mountain nature.
The lake is located on the high plateau of Sinjajevina, at about 1,780 meters above sea level, near the Vratlo pass and the Potrk waterfall. It is located at the foot of Jablanovo vrh (2,203 m above sea level), the highest peak of Sinjajevina, and the recognizable rock formation of Savina greda.
The lake actually consists of two connected parts — a smaller, lower (overflow) lake and a much larger upper lake. The primary purpose of the reservoir is to supply water and feed livestock on mountain katuns during the summer months. Mountaineering and tourist role: Lake Grkovo is one of the main starting or passing points for the ascent to Jablanov vrh. From Lipovo (near Kolašin) through the Vratlo pass, a macadam road leads to the immediate vicinity of the lake, from where the marked hiking trails to the peaks begin.
Being surrounded by the vast grassy plateaus of Sinjajevina and raw peaks, the lake provides a beautiful contrast and is a frequent motif in the photos of mountaineers and adventurers who visit these katuns.
