Exceptional Shortness: With a length of merely 150 to 170 meters from source to confluence, the Ljutica is rightly counted among the shortest rivers in Europe.
Powerful Karst Spring: It originates from an exceptionally strong and prolific karst spring that literally gushes from the deep limestone rocks of the canyon. The volume of water erupting from the rock's depths is so great that the riverbed immediately takes on the character of a loud, turbulent river.
Origin of the Name: Its name is entirely fitting—due to its steep drop, narrow channel, and the massive volume of water under pressure, the river literally "rages" (*ljuti se*), creating white foam and a powerful roar while spraying the surrounding rocks, especially in spring when the snow melts on Mount Durmitor.
