It is about the Palace Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Ćipur in Cetinje, also known as the church at Ćipur.
The photo shows this beautiful stone church, next to which there are archaeological remains and the foundations of the original Cetinje monastery built by the founder of Cetinje, lord Ivan Crnojević.
Here are the key details about this extremely significant shrine:
History and establishment: In 1484, Ivan Crnojević built his monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary in this place and placed the seat of the Zeta Metropolitanate in it. That original monastery was destroyed at the end of the 17th century in the wars with the Ottomans.
Construction of the present-day church: The present-day church of white hewn stone was built by prince/king Nikola I. Petrović Njegoš in 1890 for the needs of the court, on the very foundations of the former monastery of Ivan Crnojević.
The ruler's tomb: Inside the church on Ćipur are stored the remains of Ivan Crnojević himself (moved in 1989), as well as the remains of King Nikola I. Petrović and his wife Queen Milena (moved from Sanremo in 1989) and their children, Montenegrin princesses Xenia and Vjera.
Archaeological site: The plateau around the church, which can also be seen on the left side of your photo, includes the preserved foundations of the old monastery complex with columns, forming a whole of inestimable cultural and historical value.
