The church in the village of Štitarica near Mojkovac is actually dedicated to the Holy Archangel Michael (often popularly known as the Church of the Holy Archangel).
Here are some important and interesting facts about this temple:
Time of construction: The church was built in 1896, during the reign of Prince Nikola I Petrović Njegoš, as evidenced by the carved inscription on the stone slab above the entrance door. It was built by the municipality of Štitarićka, and folklore remembers that the locals (old and young, both genders) brought the carved stone with their own hands from the locality of Brežje, about three kilometers away.
Architecture: It belongs to single-nave buildings of modest, harmonious dimensions. It was built of hewn stone, with a semicircular altar apse and a belfry on a horseshoe (or a smaller belfry) above the facade. Above the entrance, in addition to the inscription, there is also a decorative stone rosette.
Interior: The interior features a beautiful iconostasis made in the technique of woodcarving ornamentation, decorated with symmetrically arranged stylized plant motifs.
