The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in the village of Marsenića Rijeka (Andrijevica municipality) is an important village shrine and a spiritual gathering place for the residents of this part of Vasojević.
Basic features and history:
Location: It is located in the picturesque village of Marsenića Rijeka, located in the valley of the river Lim, on the road between Andrijevica and Beran.
Construction and renovation: It was built on the site of the old church with the efforts, work and voluntary contributions of the residents of Marsenić Rijeka and the surrounding Vasojevic brotherhoods (especially the Marsenić brotherhood, after which the village got its name). It was built in order to restore the old spiritual life and preserve the tradition of this region.
Architecture: It was built in the spirit of the traditional sacred architecture of Vasojević from hewn stone. It is a single-nave building with a "horsetail" bell tower above the entrance portal. There is also a local cemetery within the church gate.
Holiday and assembly (Arandjelovdan): It is dedicated to the Assembly of Saint Michael the Archangel (Arandjelov's Day - November 21), but a large public gathering and liturgy at the temple gate is traditionally also held during the summer months (on Arandjelov's Day / Assembly of St. Archangel Gabriel on July 26), when locals, guests and descendants of families from this region gather at the assembly.
Affiliation: The temple belongs to the Diocese of Budimljansko-Nikšić.
