The Church of St. John the Baptist in the territory of the municipality of Bijelo Polje is located in the settlement of Sutivan, on the right bank of the river Lim, not far from the main road that connects Bijelo Polje with Prijepolje and the border with Serbia. Basic features and history: Location: The church is located in the settlement of Sutivan in Bijelo Polje. The very name of the settlement Sutivan comes from the Old Slavonic/Roman form for St. Ivan (Jovan), which indicates that in ancient times there was an old church or cult place dedicated to this saint on this site. Construction and renovation: The present-day church is of a recent date, built and decorated with the efforts, work and contributions of the residents of Sutivan and the surrounding Bjelopolje villages, in order to renew the age-old tradition of gathering at this place. Architecture: It was built in the spirit traditional sacral architecture made of stone. It is a single-nave building with a belfry and a decorated portico where the faithful gather. Holiday and celebration: The temple is dedicated to the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (Midday - July 7), as well as the Council of St. John (January 20). On these holidays, a solemn liturgy is traditionally served in Sutivan and a national assembly is held. Affiliation: The church belongs to the Diocese of Budimljansko-Nikšić.
