The Church of Saint George the Great Martyr in Pljevlja (located in the suburb of Guke) is one of the largest and most imposing Orthodox churches in Montenegro.
Basic features and history:
Location: It is located in the Pljeval settlement of Guke, on a spacious and accessible plateau at the foot of the hill.
Construction and consecration: The construction of the temple began in 2001, when the municipality of Pljevlja ceded land of about 2.5 hectares to the Milešev eparchy. The temple was ceremonially consecrated on May 29, 2011, with the presence of a large number of believers and church dignitaries.
Dimensions and architecture: With an area of about 600 square meters, it is considered one of the largest temples in the region. It was built in the imposing Serbian-Byzantine style with harmonious domes and a tall bell tower.
Gate and facilities: The church gate is decorated and spacious, with park furniture for children and footpaths, which is why it is a favorite meeting place for families and residents of Guke.
Feast and glory (George's Day): The temple is dedicated to Saint George (George's Day — May 6). On this holiday, as well as during large liturgical gatherings, a large number of citizens of Pljevlja and its surroundings gather in the temple.
