Žuta prla (or Žuti krš / Zute greda) represent a specific archaeological-geological and natural site located in the immediate vicinity of the medieval Brskovo complex on the Mojkovac side of Bjelasica, above the Tara River.
A few key features of this locality:
1. Prijeklo also refers to the geological composition
Characteristic color: The locality got its name from rocks, excavations and cuts of yellowish, reddish-gold and orange colors.
Mining legacy: This specific coloration of rocks and soil comes from rocks rich in sulphide minerals of iron, sulfur and metals (such as pyrite and chalcopyrite). These are historical traces of surface excavations and old mining where the rocks on the surface oxidized under the influence of air and water and acquired a recognizable yellow-red color.
2. Connection with medieval Brskov and Sasi
Medieval mining: Zuta Prla is located in the very heart of the former mining region of Brskov, which in the 13th century during the reign of King Uroš I Nemanjić was one of the most important silver, copper and lead mines in the Balkans.
The works of the German Saxons: In this and the surrounding localities, traces of old mining shafts, shafts and trenches have been preserved that were dug by German Saxon miners, who founded the first mining colony in Brskovo and minted the famous Brsk dinar (grossi de Brescua).
3. Contemporary importance and tourist potential
Archaeological-tourist point: Today, the Yellow Mountains are an integral part of the cultural-historical and hiking routes that lead from Mojkovac to the "Džambas" mountain lodge, Žarski katun and the peak of Bjelogrivac.
Cultural heritage: This site, together with the remains of the old city fortification Gradin na Brskovo and the old church, bears witness to the rich history of Mojkovac and represents a unique combination of natural geological phenomenon and medieval historical heritage.
