The Church of Saint George the Great Martyr in the village of Tušina (Savnik municipality) is one of the most important rural shrines in the Uskok and Drobnjak region.
Basic features and history:
Location: It is located in the picturesque village of Tušina, in the valley of the Tušina river, at the foot of the Sinjajevina mountain, on the road connecting Šavnik, Boan and Kolašin.
Historical significance: The area around Tušina and Boan has a rich Uskok history. The church was built in the 19th century in the place where Uskok leaders and heroes traditionally gathered. It is also related to famous folk traditions and historical figures of this region (such as the hero Novica Cerović and the Uskok champions).
Architecture: It was built in the spirit of traditional sacral architecture from beautifully carved local stone. It is a one-nave building with a "horsetail" bell tower above the entrance. As part of its gate, there is also a local cemetery where many famous locals and fighters from Uskok are buried.
Holiday and assembly (George's Day): It is dedicated to the Holy Great Martyr George (the Victorious), that is, George's Day (May 6). On this holiday, as well as during the summer months, a liturgy and a national assembly are held in Tušina, where locals, guests and descendants of families from this region gather.
Affiliation: The church belongs to the Diocese of Budimljansko-Nikšić. With its restoration and maintenance, it is a symbol of preserving the spiritual and historical tradition of Uskok.
