The Church of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the village of Brvenica (Pljevlja municipality) is an important village shrine and a spiritual gathering place for the inhabitants of the Pljevlja region.
Basic features and history:
Location: It is located in the picturesque village of Brvenica, located not far from Pljevalje (on the road leading to Crljenice and the border with Serbia).
Construction and renovation: It was built on the site of the old church with the efforts, work and voluntary contributions of the residents of Brvenica, displaced families and benefactors from the Pljeval region. The construction and decoration of the temple in recent times enabled the village to have its own restored church and meeting place.
Architecture: It was built in the spirit of traditional sacral architecture from hewn stone. It is a one-nave building of harmonious proportions with a belfry above the entrance. There is also a local cemetery within the beautiful and spacious church gate.
Feast and assembly (Little Lady): The temple is dedicated to the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Little Lady), which is celebrated on September 21. On this holiday, a solemn liturgy is traditionally served in Brvenica and a people's assembly is held, where locals, guests and descendants of families from this part of the Pljeval municipality gather.
Affiliation: The church belongs to the Eparchy of the Milesevo Serbian Orthodox Church (under whose jurisdiction is the area of the municipality of Pljevlja).
