The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Pavino Polje (Bijelo Polje municipality) is an important village shrine and a central spiritual gathering place for the inhabitants of the Vraneška Valley.
Basic features and history:
Location: It is located in the center of Pavino Polje, in the heart of the Vraneška valley, on the road connecting Bijelo Polje and Pljevlja.
Historical roots: The tradition and lore of this region link the Orthodox shrines of Vraneš to the medieval period (the connection with the endowment work in Ljuboviđa parish is also mentioned). Today's church in Pavino Polje was built and renovated on the site of an older sacred building.
Architecture: It was built in the spirit of traditional village sacral architecture made of hewn stone. It is a one-nave building with a "horsetail" bell tower above the entrance. There is also a local cemetery within its gate.
Feast and assembly: It is dedicated to the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is celebrated on August 28. On that day, a large number of locals, guests and people from the entire Vrane Valley traditionally gather in Pavina Polje for a solemn liturgy and a national assembly.
Affiliation: The temple belongs to the Diocese of Budimlja-Niksic and is an important spiritual and social center for the entire Vrane region.
