Kozica (often referred to as Kozice) is a mountain village located in the municipality of Pljevlja, in the north of Montenegro. It is a region with a rich history and recognizable natural landscapes. Historical significance and fortification Koznik The village is best known for the remains of the medieval fortress Koznik (popularly known as Jerina's Town), after which the village itself was named: Trade Center: The fortress was first mentioned in written sources in 1441 in the Dubrovnik Archives (Castrum Schoznich). In the 15th century, Koznik was an important trading center whose inhabitants traded intensively with the people of Dubrovnik. Mining heritage: Old iron mines were located in this area, and archaeological artifacts such as the medallion of St. Demetrius from the 13th century, cast from local iron slag, were also found. Ancient roads: According to legend and historical documents, caravan routes passed here, and there were old monasteries and paved paths. Geography and life in the village Nature: Kozica is a typical high-altitude, mountain village with a harsh climate, rich in pastures, forests and clean water sources. Traditional economy: For centuries, the population was mainly engaged in animal husbandry and agriculture. Demographics: Like most rural areas in the north of Montenegro, the village has been facing a significant population outflow and aging households during the last decades.
