Kučki Kom (2,487 m.a.s.l.) and Vasojevićki Kom (2,461 m.a.s.l.) are the two most imposing and well-known peaks of the Komovo mountain massif in the east of Montenegro. Although they stand opposite each other and are divided by the deep pass of Medjukomlje, they offer completely different geological and mountaineering experiences.
Kučki Kom (2,487 m.a.s.l.) — The highest and most rugged
Kučki Kom is the highest peak of the entire Komovo massif, located on the territory of the municipality of Podgorica (the historical region of Kuča).
Terrain and appearance: It is extremely rugged, steep and rocky. Unlike the tamer surrounding katuns, the top itself rises in the form of a mighty stone pyramid.
Difficulty of the ascent: It is considered one of the most difficult and dangerous mountain ascents in Montenegro. The trail requires good physical condition, caution due to loose stones and exposed rocks, as well as the use of hands on certain sections before the very top.
Head of Bjelasica and Prokletije: From the top there is an incredible view of Bjelasica, Prokletije, Durmitor and the vast plateau of Stavna.
Vasojevićki Kom (2,461 m.a.s.l.) — The most accessible and most popular
Vasojevićki Kom is the second highest peak of the massif, located in the municipality of Andrijevica, above the famous Štavna plateau and katun.
Terrains and appearance: A powerful, dominant ridge that rises directly above Stavna, giving a distinctive look to the entire area.
Difficulty of the ascent: It is considerably more accessible and safer than Kučki Kom, so it is also the most common choice of mountaineers and recreationists. The trail takes the chosen route from Stavna and leads along the grassy and rocky slopes to the ridge itself and the top. The ascent takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
Symbolism: It represents the historical and spiritual symbol of the Vasojević tribe.
